Charles Oakley (Basketball) – Charles Oakley, a 1981 graduate of John Hay High School, averaged 24 points and 17 rebounds as a senior and became the Division II National Player of the Year at Virginia Union University. The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Oakley ninth in the 1985 draft and traded his rights to the Chicago Bulls. Oakley played 19 years with other teams (New York, Toronto, Washington, and Houston). Oakley made the all-rookie team, and he was an all-star in 1994. He is 18th all-time in NBA games (1,282 games) and 21st all-time in career rebounds (12,205). Oakley was teammates with some of the all-time greats, such as Michael Jordan in Chicago, Patrick Ewing with the Knicks, and Vince Carter with the Raptors. Oakley was also in the NBA Finals with the Knicks in ’94.
